A Nashville couple’s trip to St. Louis for the Usher and Chris Brown Tour at the iconic Dome turned into an unforgettable experience.

On July 25th, my husband and I will celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary at Graceland in Memphis. Since Chris Brown and Usher will be performing in Nashville that same day, we found ourselves in a bit of a dilemma.

My husband is a huge Usher fan, while I am a die-hard Chris Brown supporter—mainly because my handsome husband bears a striking resemblance to Chris Brown. Back in our college days at Fisk University, we used to hop into my dad’s vintage Chevy and cruise downtown Nashville, blasting Usher and Chris Brown songs.

Heading to the Gateway City

It’s hard to believe we’re both in our 40s now, and I still cherish my late dad’s old Chevy. There was some talk about heading to Birmingham for the concert at their smaller arena, which seats around 18,000, but unfortunately, the seats we wanted for July 27th were already sold out. So, we chose to travel to St. Louis, Missouri instead.

St. Louis did not disappoint—we had an amazing time. The energy was lively, with fans line dancing on the floor seats. We also got a glimpse of their hometown hero, rapper Nelly. I was hoping to see SZA, another favorite of mine, but I guess she wasn’t available for this tour. My husband, a huge sports enthusiast, kept raving about being in the Dome, formerly home to the St. Louis Rams and now hosting the Battlehawks. I even looked into booking a trip to bring him back to St. Louis for a UFL game in 2027.

Delicious Food

Before heading to the Dome, we had dinner: St. Louis’ famous BBQ at Sugarfire BBQ, and it was phenomenal. The place was packed with fans heading to the concert. Our hotel was located on Market Street, so we grabbed some doggy bags and headed to the show.

As we stood in line waiting to get inside, I was overwhelmed with excitement listening to my favorite songs like “There Goes My Baby,” “Yeah,” and “U Got It Bad”—each one sending me into a frenzy. St. Louis definitely provided a cultural shock compared to my Nashville upbringing. I met some stylish women dressed to the nines, and even a local seamstress who makes her own clothes. I told her about my anniversary celebration, and she offered to send some design ideas.

We shared a warm hug and even danced a little in our seats. The experience at the Dome truly lived up to its reputation. We also took some time to explore downtown St. Louis. Unfortunately, the Gateway Arch was sold out, so we couldn’t go up, but we did try our luck at the casino. Meanwhile, my husband was dreaming about switching our romantic night at the Four Seasons Hotel to a more adventurous stay—though I gently reminded him that it was too far to change our plans, especially since many of our family members are traveling from the South to Tennessee for the celebration.

Culture in St. Louis, MO

As I wrap this up, I’d say: if you’re ever in St. Louis, MO, whether for a concert, a meal, or just to try your luck at the slots, you’ll experience a culture shock and countless adventures. We’ll be returning soon—with the grandkids in tow!
