The National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis (NCJWSTL) hosted its annual Back to School Store, equipping more than 2,100 local elementary students with essential school supplies, winter coats, shoes, and clothing. Supported by over 600 volunteers and honorary co-chair Jasmine Huda of Fox 2 News, the year-round initiative pairs each child with a personal shopper to instill confidence and academic readiness for the upcoming school year.
ST. LOUIS, MO — On Sunday, August 2, the National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis (NCJWSTL) hosted its annual Back to School Store. As a result, the team equipped more than 2,100 local elementary students with vital supplies.
During the event, each child shopped alongside a dedicated volunteer. These personal shoppers helped kids choose brand-new items for their individual needs and styles.
What Every Student Received
Because of this initiative, students walked away with complete kits for the classroom. Each child selected:
- New clothing and footwear: Winter coats, shirts, pants, shoes, socks, and underwear.
- Academic supplies: Fitted backpacks, grade-appropriate school supplies, and fun reading books.
- Personal care: Toiletries and daily hygiene essentials.
A Year-Round Community Effort
Although the store opens for just one day, the preparation takes an entire year. Consequently, more than 600 volunteers work year-round to build the event. In addition, private donors, corporations, and community partners provide essential funding and gifts.
